I fell in love with the music of Gerry Rafferty years ago and I couldn't believe it took me so long to discover him and his treasure trove of amazing songs. He was a Scottish singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. His solo hits in the late 1970s included "Baker Street", "Right Down the Line" and "Night Owl", as well as "Stuck in the Middle with You", which was recorded with his band Stealers Wheel in 1973.
But it was this song, Whatever's Written In Your Heart, that made me a believer in his music and his heart behind it.
When my brother passed away a few years ago, I knew he died with a broken heart and it was this song that was running through my mind when I heard the news of his passing. I enlisted the skills and talents of my friend, Anna Larson to help me record this song as a tribute to my brother (who I was never close with but we had some great heart to heart conversations over the phone before he left this earth.)
This song is also a mirror to my own life, funny enough. Gerry Rafferty sings and writes about me better than I can sing and write about myself. But ain't that what great songs do?
To my brother, Kevin, this song is for you... you and me both.
To Anna Larson, I couldn't have done this without you, words can't describe how special this is for me and I'm honored to have you a part of it. Please go find Anna's own music, it's beautiful and you will be rewarded with repeated listens.
Bruce Neher, thank you for making it sound as good as it can be. This song traveled from Austin to San Antonio to Colorado and back to San Antonio before making its way to the universe and into your heart.
